The "Big Day" - The Collation and Induction of Revd. Lee Mullen as the twelfth Vicar of St Saviour's, Westcliff
Thursday, 21st July, 2011 was a red letter day for the Pa
rish of St Saviour's as Parishioners gathered in the church for the collation of Revd. Lee Mullen as the new Vicar of St Saviour's by the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt. Reverend Stephen Cottrell, and his induction by the Archdeacon of Southend, the Ven. David Lowman. A congregation of 173 attended this special service. Family and friends of the new incumbent joined parishioners, local clergy, and invited guests from the local community all to welcome Lee and his wife, Donna-marie.
During the service the Bishop spoke of the challenges facing both the new incumbent and the fellowship of St Saviour's to uphold and spread the Christian faith in an increasing secular society. Representatives from local civic authorities, faith groups and charities, including The Mayor, Cllr Norman, Ward Councillor Richard Brown, Mr John Simmons, Chairman the Chalkwell Group of Churches, Mr Jack Di Metz of the Council of Christians and Jews, and Mr Richard Hair, Chair of the Management Committee of HARP (Homeless Resources Action Project), welcomed Revd. Lee to his new position, and wished him well.
After the service all were invited to share in a splendid buffet prepared by members of the congregation
It a very special and uplifting evening, and one which will inspire us all as we embark on the next phase of our parish life at St Saviour's.
Centenary Summer Fair
The Big Centenary Summer Fair on Saturday July 2nd was a tremendous success. The weather remained dry, the sun even shone in the afternoon, and the decision to put all the stalls outside on the Church lawn attracted many passers-by to stop and browse, providing many opportunities to make new friends.
The children enjoyed the bouncy
castle, a wide selection of good food was on offer in the café and at the Bar-B-Q, and all in all, a good time was had by all.
Many thanks to Trevor and the Centenary Team for all the hard work and organisation.
An Evening with Dave Walker
A small and select audience enjoyed a highly amusing evening on 21st June, when the Church Times Cartoonist, Dave Walker, came to St Saviour's to talk to us about his life as a religious cartoonist. Dave Walker had us all in stitches with his unusual, humourous and slightly irreverent take on a wide variety of aspects of Church life, illustrated by a large number of his highly entertaining cartoons. After the talk there was an opportunity to ask questions and then chat to Dave over a cup of tea, and also to purchase some of his books and cards of cartoons.
